NY Trip: Football and the Park

On Saturday, the weather changed. After so many days in the 90s with high humidity, it felt like the most glorious cool sunny morning. Aaron had a day game: Shen vs. Bethlehem at Bethlehem. We were all planning on going, along with Uncle Buck and Aunt Linda who were heading down that morning. Unfortunately, they got delayed, and the weather turned a little more overcast and blustery, so Effie offered to stay with Maia and Parker while the rest of us went to the game. Aaron is a starting offensive lineman, and 2nd string defensive lineman. He's number 54. It's always great to see Aaron play, and he played really well. Later in the game, he injured himself slightly, which unfortunately slowed him down a bit. Expecting a mild day, we (or maybe I) were a little unprepared for the cold wind which seemed to come from multiple directions and a bit of rain. These dark banks of clouds moved along quickly, and gave us brief, wonderful minutes of sunshine, during which we'd warm up a bit before the next bank of clouds rolled over us. Final Score: 38-10 for Shen. Go Plainsmen!
Maia got to swing on the Big Girl swings!
In the evening, the guys headed out to Lebanon Valley Speedway to watch the races, leaving the ladies (and Parker) with a quiet unstructured evening. Tara and I took Maia and Parker to a local park to play, while Effie went shopping for a generous gift of clothes for Maia and Parker. I think this trip to the park was even more fun for Maia than our trips, because Aunt Tara was able to play with her more than I can while I'm taking care of Parker, too. So they got to swing next to each other. Maia was delighted!

My little dare devil thought she'd try out the ropes course.

Here is Parker in the sling. He looks like he's all cheeks here!
Maia liked the tallest slide best of all.
Which generated a LOT of static on the way down!
I don't think there is another pic around of Tara and I.

Here Maia was supposed to look at me as she stuck her face out of the little holes in a tunnel system. The looking at me? Not so much. Too busy looking around and talking.
After the park, we went out for dinner at Red Robin (YUMMMMM!) for dinner. By the time our food came, it was well beyond Maia's bedtime, and while she was exhausted, she did pretty well. Aunt Brenda had bought her a set of two hugging dolls for her birthday, and since there was a birthday present, Tara thought it would be fun to get the wait staff to sing a birthday song for her.
At first, Maia tried to "play shy," and put her head down. But that didn't last long, and eventually she was delighted. Particularly when they presented her with ice cream (which she loves but tends to eat slowly because of the cold. There was lots of birthday talk again, and on more than one occasion, she sang "Happy Birthday" to the large 3-wick candle on a table in Tara's living room. Apparently she associates candles with birthdays. Go figure.
Back at Tara's, getting ready for bed. I'm glad Maia and Parker are still light enough that I can hold them both at the same time (briefly).
From We'd waited long enough...
Meanwhile, an hour drive away, The Guys were sitting in the cold wind waiting for a rain delay. At least they got to see a rainbow.
