Five and 1/2 months!

I cannot believe how quickly time is passing. Maia is teething: you can see the outline of her two bottom teeth beneath her swollen gums. She loves to sit up, and is getting better at sitting unassisted and for longer periods of time. She babbles constantly, and is starting develop a sense of humor. She has laughed at me twice, now, when she decided I didn't look quite right. Once when I had a winter hat on, and once when I was wearing my glasses (which she hadn't seen for a while). Ray can get laughs out of her very easily with a couple of little games. She loves to get her socks off and get her toes in her mouth. She loves to bang her toys. She often kicks and stomps her leg (or legs) or arm.

New things every day...

We (well, I) have now witnessed Maia rolling over in succession. So we know she can roll from back to tummy, and now tummy to back - but she doesn't seem as interested in rolling from tummy to back unless she's trying to get somewhere. Miss Danica at daycare shared with me last week that one of her "friends" doesn't care much for tummy time. Since Maia loves it so, they often pair the two of them for tummy time, as she seems to distract him from his misery. Apparently the two were some ways apart while tummy timing last week, and when Miss Danica turned around, Maia was rolling over top of Pete and they both seemed delighted. We laughed that steamrolling people can be an important skill! I like this little story. It makes me feel like Maia is already making a positive impact on others in her world. And that she does this at daycare makes me feel good. This is an opportunity it would be much more difficult for me to provide her at home. Sometimes, it's the little things that help me cope. Maia doesn't spend much time in her swing these days... but she was really enjoying it this particular day, and thought she'd talk for a while. We're seeing a good outline of Maia's two bottom teeth just below her gums, and she's been chewing a lot, and having days of rosy cheeks, pink ears and fussiness. I think it will be a bit before they emerge yet... but they're coming! And, some miscellaneous pictures. Maia will be 5 months old tomorrow... can you believe it? I've heard it said the days are long but the years are short. I think the days FLY! With daddy, in one of her new Christmas outfits from Grandma Effie. She's still a huge fan of her exersaucer. Although we did have to remove one toy, because she couldn't get it in her mouth, and that makes her really mad. This morning, she had no interest in reclining in her rocker. Don't worry... she's strapped in. Check it out! I gots feets! It's extremely cold this week, so we're extra bundled. However... We Are Not Amused. (I know I'm her mom and everything... but I think her eyes are becoming absolutely beautiful! My eye color is so gray by contrast.)
