A New Car!!!

Oh, don't get excited. It's not a new car for US... it's a (brand new to her) car for Maia. My sister dropped it off Friday evening (so happy to get it out of their garage). This is a car with history: it survived all three of her kids (now 12, 9 and 7) and it was actually a hand-me-down from Miss Marilyn, Emily's first daycare provider (12 years ago). Since it came after Maia's bedtime, and needed a little TLC before we wanted her to use it, Kath and I hid it in the side yard until I had time to hook up those hose. It rained all morning, so by the time it finally cleared up, Maia could hardly wait to get outside. Then she wanted to swing. I got her all buckled into the swing, and she saw it. This little blue thing, filled with rainwater, a little dirt and a spiderweb or two (it's been a few years since it's been used...) And she no longer wanted anything to do with swinging. She asked to get down, and made a beeline to the car. She was NOT to be deterred, so I dumped out the rainwater, got a bowl of soapy water and a towel, and cleaned it up. She did NOT wait for me to do this before she got in, but was okay with getting out so I could clean it. She called it a bus. I moved it up to the deck so she could push it more easily with her feet. She played with all the buttons and knobs. And then decided it was just as fun to push (or pull) from the outside.
Interestingly, she did an amazing job when she found the car in a corner, pulling it backwards and in the opposite direction of where she needed the front of it to go (just like when you're turning the wheel of a regular car in reverse). That impressed me. I can't figure out how she would have learned that bit of physics, because it was clear that she already knew how to do it.
After the pushing and pulling, then there was the experimenting with other ways to get in it besides the doors - which she was so cute about opening and closing before she put her hands on the wheel.
Okay, yep... got it!
But apparently that was more hassle than it was worth, because she got back out by using the door.
Then she decided to collect a stick or two and give them a ride in the back of the car.
So now there is even MORE to draw her "ow-side" every day... as much as possible.... "pees momma!"
