Weddings and Birthdays (Massena, part 1)

We made our cross-country trek to camping, and survived the drive.  Parker was amazingly content (bless him) and Maia was so very excited.  We thought we'd be clever and pick the kids up from daycare right after lunch, which is naptime, and they'd sleep in the car. Right? Wrong. Maia claimed she was hungry (she just ate "everything" as reported at daycare). Then sleepy, not sleepy. We're going to da hotel, right? I'm excited about dat!"

While parts of the trip were challenging, we still felt that we made the right choice: taking Friday off to pack the car without being rushed, and to leave town early enough to get to the hotel before we were completely exhausted. It generally takes 60-90 minutes for the kids to wind down at the hotel before they can sleep.  They are, apparently, quite exciting to the under three set?

We got some breakfast at McDonald's, where Maia and Parker thought it was great fun that his highchair rolled around; they were in great moods!  The 2nd leg of the trip went beautifully!  We arrived in time to set up the camper we borrowed from Uncle Wayne, get diaper changes and potty breaks and clothing changed.  We then drove back into town to the gazebo on the river to watch Schuyler and Karlie get married.
Maia really thought the "princess at the park" was very pretty.
Maia also had a lot of fun running around with her cousins Patience and Faith before, during and after the wedding itself.

The next morning, Maia awoke to the realization that we were going to eat all our meals outside.
Like a picnic, all day!

And we were very excited to re-connect with family.
Maia played with Patience a bit more.   (ed. Apparently they also share a birthday, a year apart!)
Then we had Rachael's 16th Birthday Party!
And hauled out the camping toys, including the infamous fire truck!
